Rock Hard at Hard Rock

Our bestie girls from San Fran were back in Florida for a few days.  We had Sunday Funday with them and of course CW searched to see if there were any good bands we like that were playing in the area.  YES.  Gavin DeGraw was going to be at the Hard Rock.  It was perfect.   The music gods do love us.  They are “forever in our favor”.

Starting out the day right…a little bubbly to welcome J&K.

Gavin was playing at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Img_2447

It’s a pretty cool venue.

Img_2441

Couldn’t help but get some pics of the decor.  You know me…

Img_2435

SOOOOO happy to see our girls.

Img_2437

CW and I first saw Gavin on the 2004 Rock Boat.  Shortly after that his song got picked up and
landed the gig for One Tree Hill.

Img_2465

As an FYI–Zac Brown Band was on that cruise too, along with the many, many other bands that we have followed and loved throughout the years, including:

Will Hoge – Eli Young Band now sings one of his hits “Even if It Breaks Your Heart”

Marc Broussard - such an amazing voice.  We’ve even seen him at Cafe Du Nord (love that place) in San Fran with Kelly and Janet.

Ingram Hill - who sings our wedding song “Chicago”.  Our other fav song by them is “The Captain” (we seriously jam out at the part that plays at 2:35)

Jackson Rohm - who we hired to play at our mountain wedding and sang “Four on the Floor” more times than he can probably remember — or wants to.

So–yes, that also means that among other now popular songs we were singing “Chicken Fried” wayyyyy back when…

Img_2457

Nothing like a concert in the middle of the day.

Img_2482

Next time we’ll see Janet and Kelly it will be in the mountains!!!  We are major traveling companions.

Img_2483

Gavin was in a SUPER good mood that day.  He was all smiles, sang the old songs we love and put on a really great show.

Img_2452

He was jumping all over the place =)

Img_2454

Hi to us.

Img_2480

Peas in a pod.  Seriously–they were for sure separated at birth.

Img_2488

These three go WAY back so many years when they all worked at the hospital together here.  I’m always in good company if I need medical attention haha.  Knock on wood–it’s never been me who needs it.  Ah-hem….frost-bite……

Img_2502

Kel captured this pic.  So sweet.

Img_2493

A little gambling and we were ready to head back to our place to watch the Bucs game and hang out.  Jeff and Ellen came on over and it was a par-tay.

Img_4826

I had ordered some Lou Malnati’s pizzas for us.  Yeah–that “someone” was me.

Img_4840

Kelly’s birthday is in a couple of weeks, so a cake was also in order.  Note:  we all know that Publix has THE best cakes, but this one was beyond ridiculous.  White and chocolate cakes with vanilla and chocolate puddings.

Img_4830

Oh–and then how totally random that we stumbled upon a Gavin DeGraw concert on TV!!

Img_4833

So thankful for amazing friends, great music and being able to celebrate another healthy year and birthday together.  See you soon girls!!!

Olivia’s Day

It was time to put Lady O’s shin-dig together.  I loaded up the car and headed over to Jeff and Ellen’s.  She was the best little birthday girl–a happy camper all day long, saying “hiiiiii” in the sweetest little voice a million times.

Isphotosshuffledtrue

I was beyond happy with how the fabric banners turned out.

Img_2136

The “O” that the girls made on our craft day was the perfect greeter” to the party.

Img_2147

“Oooooooo, I see the balloons outside”….

Img_2213

“Really, you crazy people want me to look through this thing?  Nah–I’ll jump right through it.  Act fast with your cameras–I’m on my own time people”.

Img_2243

I had a basic white canvas in the garage that I decided to wrap like a present (I know, I have problems, my crafty mind doesn’t stop).   A little ribbon, a flower thing I had, some hot glued buttons and it was perfect above the table.

Img_2168

The tried and true frame with black scrapbook paper.  Just write on the glass with a dry erase marker…

Img_2129

The cake.  Yum.

Img_2191

Ellen made the “monthly picture” banner.  She did awesome!  Yeah, it was football Sunday too…

Img_2165

Yo lady, it’s your birthday.

Img_2236

Confetti circles…

Img_2167

Moscato punch.  Always a hit.  It’s just Barefoot Moscato wine, frozen cranberry-lemonade and sprite.  Here’s the recipe.

Img_2174

Ta-da.  Food is here.

Img_2221

We were constantly asked about the recipes for the dips.

Img_2207

I’ve blogged them before, one is the recent bean and corn dip that I switched up a bit (black beans, shoepeg corn, avocado, feta, cilantro, green onion, tomatoes, then just add garlic salt, garlic pepper and hot sauce to taste).  The other is the easiest appetizer in the history of the world.  Store-bought pesto, store-bought hummus on that, topped with feta cheese, cucumbers and tomatoes.

Img_2206

Another great weather day.

Img_2144

I had bought Olivia these books forever ago and they finally came in handy for the favor table.

Img_2158
Img_2160

Of course I had to do cupcake toppers.

Img_2120

The banner was a fab back-drop for cake-smashing time.

Img_2227

Are yooooooooou readyyyyyy?

Img_2251

Success.

Img_2256

I saw these photo prop kits at Target…so fun.

Img_2170

Emma and Abby putting them together.

Jeff getting involved.

Img_2224

Hey lady–why are you obsessed with the window?

Img_2238

Give me a pose girls…

Img_2261

Now you guys…

Img_2259

Ok-keep it going…

You know how this goes…more interested in the tissue paper.

Happy First Birthday Olivia!!!

You had an awesome party-and with this family—you’ll have a ton of photos to show you down the road.  Get used to it, Jeffrey and I have problems.

Lady ONE

Hello my Friend!

Auntie Kays is in full-on decorating mode!  Lady O’s first birthday is tomorrow and her party this weekend.  I’m making a couple of fabric banners, cupcake toppers and favor tag labels.

Here are some shots of Olivia that Jeff and Ellen took on Halloween.  Adorable.

and a sneak peak at the banners….they turned out so cute.

Img_1883

I’ve seen some awesome birthday hats on Etsy, but they’re pretty pricey.  So, I went on the hunt in my garage, found some materials and attempted my own.

Img_1886

Not bad for zero dollars.  I knew having a boatload of craft materials would always come in handy (CW doesn’t quite think so haha).  I love a hot glue gun.

It’ll be perfect for her cake smashing pic..well, if she wants to cooperate that is.

1992 Was Cool

Hello my Friend!

Guess who’s BIRTHDAY it is today??  Mama Kays.  Say happy bday to my amazing mom!!!

Ry400

Some birthdays are just hard when you don’t get to be with that person and Iowa to Florida is not such a simple “hop” to stop by.  I’m super excited that we’re heading back to the good ol Hawkeye state next month for….wait for it….my 20th high school reunion!!!  Whhhhaaaaaa????

Lordy-I do not feel old, but that’ll pretty much put things in perspective.  Wanna see me in high school?  Well thanks to Facebook and scanning, you can.

I loved the big hair craze.  At times I didn’t even brush out my “bangs curl”–just added a half a bottle of hairspray to it and the sides (hee hee).  Man, I loved getting it as big as I could and pretty sure I had a perm at some point to get it bigger.

I was tagged in this little nugget of the past.  Gotta love the gloves (and posture).  The thing I most remember about this junior prom was that my mom made that dress.  I was dying for a purple dress with layers of black lace.  She was the BEST seamstress (still is).

My girl Steichen is hiding in the back in the blue dress (think she’s one of the reasons that I continued to be called “Kays” throughout college bc we went to Iowa together).  Seibert (another Sarah that went by her last name) there in the polka dots and Haug (shortened last name–I was not the only with a nickname) with the long blond hair….the 4 of us were besties.  Ahhh…the memories.  Can’t wait for the reunion!!

Oh–and you wonder why I’m called Kays?  My senior class had 104 peeps (I think—somewhere around that number.  It was a Catholic school.  College was my first non-Catholic school and boy can I tell you how crazy excited I was to not HAVE to wear socks and be able to wear baseball caps in college)!  Anyways, in my class there were 10 SARAH’s.  We became known as our last names and on through college and my Chicago years I became a shortened version of it to “Kays”.

Yep, that would be me in the middle back row–with my eyes closed.  Oh well, you get the point.

So–in honor of my 20th, let’s take a trip down memory lane as to what pop culture was like in 1992:

“I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred was #1.  Oh-M-G, I mean, who didn’t love that song?

Tiger Woods (age 16-holy crap), becomes the youngest PGA golfer in 35 years.

“Silence of the Lambs” wins Academy Award (hello Claaaarice…).

The final episodes of “Growing Pains” (had a mad crush on Kirk Cameron), “Who’s the Boss” and “Golden Girls” air.

Amy Fisher shoots Mary Jo Buttafucco (did you watch her on Celebrity Rehab)?

Johnny Carson’s final appearance on Tonight Show.

Northern Exposure wins the Emmy (remember that show with Dana Delaney)?

Bill Clinton wins presidential election over George Bush.

C&C Music Factory and Michael Bolton win American Music Awards (haha).

Now, let’s talk fashion.  If you google 1992-it was the era of grunge (hello Doc Marten’s), baggy jeans (better if they were ripped) and overalls (preferably only one shoulder connected).  Birkenstocks became popular.  Wearing leotards as a top with jeans was cool (le’ts be honest, that only worked because we were young and had rockin bodies).  My all-time favorite–the huge slouchy socks we wore over leggings.  Keds were the shoes to have.  Matching jeans and demin jackets in darker shades took over the acid-wash rein of the 80′s.

Let’s have a 90s party ASAP!!!!

Remember this?  Cindy Crawford’s Pepsi Super Bowl commercial was the hottest thing going.  Go ahead and reminisce here.

I love, love, loved high school.  I’m so grateful that back then we weren’t sucked into the internet, we didn’t have cell phones and I worked at the best place in the world.  Maid-Rite.  The greatest loose meat sandwiches EVA (yes, I said loose meat…you know, kind of a sloppy jo).

Good thing I was a cheerleader, or I’m sure I would’ve been ha-uge by the amount of free food we got to eat.  The guy who owned the one that I worked at loved to hire cheerleaders from the different high schools in town.  It was awesome…definitely the hot spot for all the boys to come say “hi”.  We met so many people from the other schools (3 out of the 4 of my posse worked there).

Maid

You can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be draggin CW to get a few when we’re home.  Hmmm…now I’m craving a tenderloin, pizza burger, sour cream and chive fries and the ultimate…cheese balls.

Not sure what I’ll do if that place ever shuts down.  Well, that and Happy Joe’s pizza!!!!!  The taco pizza is to die for.

Taco

I wish they would ship to Florida =(

Taco1

Ok-correction, I’ll be draggin CW to TWO places.

I hope it’s Fall when I get there…I’m over the Summer and wanna wear my boots.
