Summer in the City

Hello my Friend!  We just got back from good olA for my 20th high school reunion.  It was a truly fantastic weekend.  Before I get to that I realized that I haven’t even blogged about a couple of other previous trips.  Before I forget to, I need to tell ya about Chicago back in July (lord-what is wrong with me?) and Cabo a couple of weeks ago.

I always take soooo many pics that it takes me quite a while to compile a read-worthy, coherent synopsis.  So–I’m going to tackle my Chicago trip for you now…

Img_0825

Since CW didn’t join me on this one, I stayed with one of my girls Christina.  She’s one of the only ones left that hasn’t moved to the burbs.  I grabbed the train and headed to the city.

Img_2758

It was gorgeous out!!  First things, first…lunch.  Love Roscoe Village.

Img_2762

Cheers to girls weekend!

Img_2761

Aren’t Christina’s kids adorable?

Img_0831

Yep, they’re twins and sweet as can be.

Img_0856

Since the Cubs were in town, I trucked on over to Wrigley to see my Bec at the Dugout.  I mean, how amazing is this place??!!

Img_2766

There is nothing like the energy you feel on this corner.  Bec, Lisa and I used to live right there on Sheffield, on the other side of Sports Corner.  It was our very first apartment in the city–we even had a rooftop.  We knew we were lucky.  Soooo many memories made in that place.

Img_2764

Let’s get this party started!

Underground secret….

Img_0819

My friend Amy who lives in San Fran now just so happened to be in town, so she came by too.  Yes-I do realize I’m not representing very well.  No blue or red.  Bad girl in black.

Img_2767

They were giving away everything Old Style haha.  Funay.

Img_0814

Christina, Bec and I met back out later and ended up at one of my favorite places in the city.  It’s now called Cedar Hotel, but it will always be Melvin B’s to me.  Smack dab in the middle of the city, with an outside patio.  It’s the perfect place.

Img_0838

Sneaky Michelle and her hubs, Brian, surprised me and were there when we walked in.  Muah!!!  Happy Birthday to Brian.

Img_0832

So happy to see my girls.

Img_2777

Like no time had passed…

Img_2776

Not sure what num-nut we had take this photo, but at least Bec is in this one.  Yo–bright lights.

Img_2772

The hostess with the mostess out-did herself on the food front.  Check out the breakfasts she made me over the weekend!

Img_2779

There’s a fab park across the street from Christina’s house and the kids had swimming class, so we went to get some sun.  A fantastic pool that’s hidden in a neighborhood–you’d never know it was there.  Love it.

Img_0841

The park was packed.

Img_0843

I die for a tried and true street fest in Chicago.  No other city can do it like they can.  Bec and I met at Wicker Park Street Fest and I got to see some of our friends I hadn’t seen in forever.

Img_0845

Open air bars…meat on a stick and beers.  That makes me happy on a Saturday.

Img_0847

A few of my girls (Michelle, Lisa, Christina, Kathie) were coming to the city for a night out.  Are you keeping up?  When I get back there, I pretty much pack in the activities to see everyone!

On a side note: sometimes I just hate the Iphone–especially at night.  What’s with the ghost eyes??  Anyways, dinner at Mercadito (def recommend) and we laughed our butts off all night long (we were up bantering until 4am-so we had to have a sleepover).  I cannot believe this is the only pic that any of us took that whole night.  That is unheard of!

One of my friends from Tampa was flying into Chicago on Monday for work, so I decided to hang with her and show her around the city.

Bec ended up meeting us (in her scrubs, what a trooper)!  First stop–a drink at Tavern on Rush.  Very Chicago.

Img_0861

This city is so pretty.

Img_0860

Welcome to Chi-town Amy!!

Img_2805

Amy and I headed to RPM (Guiliana and Bill Rancic’s restaurant)…

Img_2816
Img_2817

We walked around the city….and then had dinner at Tavernita (amaze-balls) before calling it a night.

Img_2818

Whew–it was a whirlwind weekend with my girls.  Amy even got me to do a crazy spin class at the company she works for (Fly Wheel-check them out).  Not exactly what I had in mind at 8:30am the day I was leaving after 4 days of hoopla.  But, kinda glad she made us get up because when I got back home I signed up for a spin place here (Ryde for Life).  So sly she is.

In a nutshell, I got a Cubs game, a street fest, a rooftop bar, great food and more memories with my old friends.  Be back soon chicas!!!

Kelly and Debby

Hello my Friend!  We’re drying out from the lovely Tropical Storm Debby.  She was rude.  But, on a positive note–the BEST news this week is that one of my best friends moved here-for realz!!!  Can you believe it?  I still can’t.  Kelly and I have been friends since college and then all through the years in Chicago (we were partners in crime).  Last night we were discussing how glad we were that cell phones (especially cell phones with cameras and Facebook were not in our era).  SOOOOOOO glad haha!!

Here we are at her wedding (hey Dollie)...

Ry400

 and at my wedding….

Ry400

Her hubby and the kids made the drive from Chicago over the weekend and toughed it out through Debby.  I made a couple little welcome gifts for them.  One for the kids (I figured they needed a couple new toys for their new house) and some candles and such for their patio.

Image_2

Of course I brought a little bubbly to toast their arrival with (at noon.  It was 5 o’clock somewhere).  Oh-did I tell you that they live like a mile from my house??!!!  Can you say amazing!!!

Image_5

On the Debby note…here are some pics that people submitted to the local ABC News site here.  The biggest talk of the town was Bayshore Boulevard.  It’s down in South Tampa, right along the water.  People run, bike, walk, etc. and it’s gorgeous.  Look at it now…that wall to the right is the sea wall and the entire middle river where the canoe is-is the 4 lane street with medians (all underwater).

Image_4

This one is a couple of peeps floating ON the road (looking out over the sea wall and the Bay).

An overhead view.  Again, the whole middle part should be the road.

This was on Clearwater Beach.

and on Honeymoon Island.  Where’s the sand?

A tornado (they are the scariest part of storms for sure).  Coming from the Midwest they’re not something new, but still afraid of them.  This was near the big Legoland Amusement Park.

Lots of downed trees and flooding everywhere.

Oh-remember a couple weekends ago when CW and I went to the beach for the night and stopped at Pass-a-Grile for breakfast (at this Sea Horse Restaurant)?  Look at it now….

Elizabeth_calver_-_st

One thing I did enjoy was wearing comfy sweatshirts (in June).  Gotta love that.  I cooked and blogged quite a bit and even changed my blog format around.  Do you like?

So-Debby’s on her way out thank the lord.  Thinking of those who lost so much.

Frame Process

Hello my Friend!  OMG-the most amazing thing happened today.  I came home to a big package waiting for me.  Hmmm….what’s this?

I opened it and about peed my pants (sorry, but true) and started screaming at the pups in excitement.  Our besties Kelly and Janet sent me that Crate and Barrel Map of Chicago that I blogged about…for my birthday!!!  It’s was like magic.

Image

They are truly the best…and they just got back from a big trip and still thought of me.  I am lucky.  I couldn’t wait to hang it up.  Right by the front door, so I’ll see it everyday.  Thank you girls!!!

Image_4

I did a couple projects today.  More painting (a console table brown to white and an end table light wood to mint green) that I’ll show ya when it’s light out and I can get better pictures.  I’m trying to start the “frame wall” downstairs.  I learned the best process to go about it from a few blogs.

I gathered the ones I had around and put them on the floor…

Image_3

Then made templates of the frame sizes by taping together printer paper (this might seem time consuming, but it’s super fast.  it took longer for me to figure out an “arrangement” I liked)…

Image_6

Using the picture I took as a reference, up they went on the wall (with painters tape of course)...

Image_1

Think I’m going to look at it for awhile before I start banging into the wall.  The other bloggers say it’s easiest to measure where the nail needs to go on the actual frame, then mark that measurement on the paper that’s on the wall…and hammer right through the paper.  SMART!!!

Once I get them up, it’s going to take me awhile to decide what photos (out of the thousands I’ve taken) make the cut.  I’m also doing a frame wall in the upstairs hallway, so I have options =)  It’s actually the last thing I have left in all of the rooms…figuring out what frames/photos I want up.  Decisions, decisions.  Then, it will be reveal time of everything for ya!!!

Well, that’s not completely true, the office is the last room that’s begging for attention.  This is my inspiration.  It’s the desk stool.  There are similar curtains on the way, but for now it’s kind of the dumping room for all frames. baskets, bins, odds and ends, etc.

Image_5

At least when I’m done with everything else, I’ll still have this room to get creative about.  Any ideas???  I’m thinking black, gray, white and pops of this mustard yellow.

Can you tell that EVERY single room in this house is basically white, gray and black with a “color” that can be easily changed out with pillows and accessories:

Downstairs Great Room and Bath Pop: Royal blue (still comtemplating adding another color to brighten things up)

Spare Bedroom and Bath Pop: Mint Green (it’s my fav room I think)

Master Bedroom and Bath Pop: Aqua

Office Pop: Mustard Yellow

See ya!!!
