Summer Lovin

Hello my Friend!  So, we headed over to the beach last weekend for a little relaxing birthday time.  Oh-crap, more on that to come, but I totally forgot to show you Goose’s bday.  How rude.  I didn’t do a big, dress-up party this year.  Figured I’d give her a break.

The little lady turned 4.

Image_12

She is so stinkin cute.

Image_1

I made her a strawberry cake with sprinkles.

Image_3

See?

Img_0687

She LOVED it.

Img_0692

Wrigley too….obvisoulsy.  Hers was wolfed down instantly.

Img_0697

G Money took a little more time enjoying every bit.  Happy Bday to the Gooser!!!

Img_0698

Ok, back to us…we decided to have a beach day/night at the Tradewinds Island Grand over in St. Pete–truly for the sole reason that they have a dedicated adult pool =)
Img_0744
Seeing as how it was a Saturday and a few of the other hotels were booked, we knew it was going to be packed.  We got a great view though!!!

Island

If you haven’t been here, this place is HA-uge.  They have a few different pools, an area that’s shaded, one of those lazy rivers that you can paddle-boat through, a ton of restaurants, the beach of course, a ginormous inflated slide on the beach, a waterpark that’s roped off in the ocean, and on and on.  All we wanted was a day sitting in the pool.  That’s all.

Img_0734

After having to cancel a trip that CW had worked hard at planning for the weekend before (because of the stupid rainy weather), we lucked out this day.  It was gorgeous with a little bit of wind.

Img_0732

A miracle, a hotel where the beach chairs are actually included in the stupid $25 resort fee.  Shouldn’t they always be?  Yeah, well they’re usually not and you end up spending like $20 for a chair.  Anyways…

Img_0724

The Tiki Bar was my friend for sure.

Img_0741

We sat in the shallow side of 3 feet of water and chatted all day long.  Perfect.

Img_0743

We headed down the beach to Treasure Island for dinner and the sunset.

Img_0710

Can you believe the colors??
Img_0704
Img_0709
A little hot fudge sundae back at the hotel before bed (I told you they have everything) and we called it a day.  A great day.  The next morning we drove down to Pass-a-Grille for breakfast.  Such a cute little area and a totally less populated beach.

Img_0745

This Sea Horse place was packed, so we figured it must be good.  How funny is their sign, no words, just a sea horse.

Img_0748

Oh-there are the words.

Img_0754

Not a bad view for breakfast.

Thx to CW for a great little impromptu stay-cation.  We’ll do your other planned get-away another weekend!!

Twist my arm.

The Beach is Back

Hello my Friend!!!

Arghh…Posterous (my blog site) has been acquired by Twitter and now I’m having the craziest issues uploading photos. D*mn you.

So-from my phone I’m saying “hi” to you and hoping it posts. CW and I went to the beach yesterday. I used one of my sand writing pics as my new header.  You like?

It’s the best time of year for the beach-meaning there’s still a breeze and not that ridiculous, suffocating humidity. Score!!  We sat in this big, fat chair and people-watched.

This included a couple of kite surfers (even though I was a major outdoorswoman in Telluride, that kite surfing freaks me out–you get swooped out there pretty far into the ocean), a dude walking by us in a Telluride hat (how random?), a girl whose body was half covered in tats (very hard not to stare bc she looked kinda cute and normal) and the kicker (well, MY kicker) was the 5 tall, lean guys who had some sort of volleyball league of their own going on in front of us.  They were perty to look at and at times comical–especially that one had his son with him.  He was trying to play and also make sure the little man didn’t try to climb and kill himself on all of the over-sized wooden furniture.  We were at The Undertow (love) on St. Pete Beach.  This place has crazy big chairs of all sizes–you kind of feel like you’re in Honey I Shrunk the Kids a bit.  Oh-note to self-volleyball must be a good workout =)

P266

I slathered on the 30 sunscreen hoping not to burn (well, that is-after I noticed that my knees were getting fried. why is it that I always miss my knees?)..this winter white-only spray-tanned skin is scared of the summer Florida sun.

It was a perfect day.  We have made a pact to head to the beach more this year =)  Yep, hard pact.

No Napping in Siesta Key

Have you been to Siesta Key?   It’s near Sarasota, FL and a super pretty beach community. My brother, Sheryl and baby Brennan were down last weekend, so we headed South (maybe an hour and 15 minutes from here) and Jeff and Ellen were able to join us.  We had some family business to take care of–that we all had been putting off for almost a year.  More of that to come…

We arrived at Sheryl’s family’s condo (her parents were down also).  Look at this road that you walk to the beach on.  Spectacular.

Road

I was ecstatic to see Brennan.  I hadn’t seen him since he was a month old.  That’s way too long.   He’s such a chill, good little baby and was more than happy to appease me with some photos…must be related to me!

Me_bren

While B Man took a nap, Sheryl and Phil took us to SKOB for lunch.  What a fun place.  SKOB is Siesta Key Oyster Bar.  I like SKOB (seems like the cool, “in” people would call it SKOB).

Skob

Loved all the decor–and especially the Wrigley Field Light in the corner!  Great food, one of the best grouper tacos I’ve had…

Bills

Live music (and Harley’s, being driven by a dude with the longest dredlocks we’d ever seen) were arriving as we were done =(

Skob2

We headed back and down to the beach to chill.  The only one who went in the water–was my bro.  This is his “Charlie’s Angels” shot of him coming out of the water–that I told him about after the fact….

Phil

Kaysers and Wilsons…

All

and some of B Man in the water.  Isn’t his outfit adorable?

Phil_bren

I made Sheryl’s family get in on the action (I’m such a pain)….

Fam_sheryl

This is my FAV pic…love it!

and because I just can’t stop editing..I made them into Pop Art too haha…

Pop

We had such a great day with the fam and I was sad to say goodbye, but knew we’d be back to Chicago in a few months, so that helped.  See ya B Man!!!

Now…for the other business of the day…Jeff, Ellen, CW and I were off to show their mom (Dianne) some respect.  She passed away last year, November 8th (her birthday also, which is still odd) and had lived in Sarasota in her younger days.  We knew that at some point we wanted to put her in some good spots here.

First stop–the cemetary where the boys’ grandfather was (good ol Bernie).  We all split up and scoured the mausoleums, hunting him down.  There was a groundskeeper totally staring at us, I’m sure wondering what the h*ll these hoodlums were up to, running all over the corn maze of mausoleums, making a racket.  We were trying to make jokes and lighten the mood a bit, so it wasn’t so somber.  CW found him (insert the big celebration that ensued)…and then we noticed that his “E” in Bernard must have fallen off and they replaced it with an “A”.  Ah—-if that isn’t so rude???!!!!!  Or, are we the rude ones who haven’t been here to notice?  Whatever, note: contact cemetary peeps to re-spell his name…

Again, another opportunity for humor (as many more moments of laughter would show themselves as the day went along).  As if that little spelling error wasn’t bad enough, Jeff then noticed that they also added a “L” to the end of Levkoff.  Look again, his name should be Bernard A. Levkoff…who do they have working here cause they need some spelling tutoring stat!?  We gave Bernie a little Dianne love (no pictures this time, that would have been weird) and were off to the next spot on the Dianne Tour.

Bernard

We passed her old high school, which is straight up out of the Grease movie (Rydel High).  Can’t believe I didn’t get a pic.  Pretty cool.  Bernie used to own THE bowling alley in Sarasota–it was THE place to be, so it was off to Sarasota Lanes.  I’d heard so much about this place.

Lanes

The boys had their moments down memory lane, reminiscing and telling us stories.  For Ellen and I it was pretty special.

Bowl

They were super impressed that they actually have live music there!!!  The guys who were working were totally young and cute (in a high school way, not a cougar sort of way), so I’m betting it’s still THE place to be.

Bowl2

Ok, boys, let me capture this, get in the picture…last one (maybe not) =)

Boys_bowl

Next up was Bernie’s old condo.  The boys said it hadn’t really changed much after all these years.  They’d spent tons of time there and it was so peaceful right on the water.

Boat

Ellen and I were giving props to Bernie. What a pretty pad.  We knew it was definitely the place and time.

View

So, here ya go MA…

Dianne

Perfect weather and without a doubt it felt right.  Just as we were starting to walk a bit and take a little moment to gather our thoughts, we looked back as a big gust of wind blew Dianne–and a certain important memento started flying right towards the water.  HOLY CRAPPPPP as we went running…..”get your MA”, “whoaaaaa”, “MAAAAAAAAA”.  You can imagine the commotion that went on.  Kind of like Tom Hank’s “Wilsoooooonnnn” in Castaway.

Who was the fastest and the one that ultimately saved the day—8 months pregnant Ellen.  Yay Ellen!!!!!!!  She’s fast when she’s on a mission-must be the maternal instinct kicking in.  See, I told you there were funny things that kept happening.  Now we knew, for a fact, that Dianne was with us…intent on not making this a sad moment, but one that we would chuckle about and never forget.  We were full-on laughing as we headed to dinner…good ol Dianne.

Water

LOVE Ceviche’s in Sarasota.  It’s an old 1924 building, that used to house “The Times”.  CW and I had been there once before and wanted Jeff and Ellen to go.  It’s pretty cool, 4 stories of history wrapped up into a fantastic Tapas restaurant…we have a couple of Ceviche’s in our area, but nothing beats this building.

Ceviche

A little Happy Hour action on the rooftop deck…

Deck

To see the sunset and make an important cheers to Dianne…

Sun

The boys in the elevator–not surprising, the day had made us all a little loony (they do look a little bit like serial killers, no offense, totally friendly and fun ones).  Just chalk it up to a day filled with oddities…

Jeff

I represented the Hawks…well, I guess CW did too, cause his t-shirt was Hawkeyes also.  Weird, just noticed that.

Me

This was the “Amazing Race” of all dinners (CW tried to talk me into applying to that show a few years back, fyi).  We just kept ordering and ordering, in “rounds” of tapas.  Round 1.

Food

Round 2..Paella. Yum.  We actually forgot we had ordered it, so when it showed up, it was like a gift.

Paella

Round 3.  Not that we noticed, but I’m assuming that we had to have been making a scene, with the insane amounts of food that were piling up on a little 4 top table.  “Put that on the table behind us”, “Ah, just stick that on the floor”, “Is this a candle, do we need it, can you take this away”…priorities I tell ya–just keep the food coming, we’ve had a long day.

Food4

 Round 4.

Food3

and the ultimate finale…both boys were more than eager to order A dessert (but because they are Wilsons and obviously share a brain, they both ordered TWO each, thinking they were being sneaky and would “surprise” us, insert loud laughs and cheers here), so this was Round 5 Dessert.

Food5

Never ones to disappoint…we marched on!!!  We won the Amazing Race!!  To give you some insight into the fun, feisty times, filled with off-the-wall conversations that we all have together….here’s how dinner ended.  I pulled out my Iphone and entered all of our “bets” in the “notes” section.  Who wold be the closest in guessing the total of the bill?  Jeff won (winner, winner chicken dinner was excitedly inserted here).  I was expecting it to be a doozy, so my estimate was way too high.  Guess that means it was a bargain.

Food6

Isn’t the inside cool?  Our table was up there on the second floor in the back left corner.

Room

We couldn’t have planned a better day in Siesta Key and Sarasota with the fam!!!  Lots of laughs and lots of love.  Feeling lucky.

and as I got in the car, I still had Dianne right there, MUAH lady, We Love Ya.

Fall is Fabulous

Ah, Hello My Friend!

I’ve missed my blog, so so sorry!
Kays is “present, here, in attendance, on board”……
speaking of on board, guess where we just got back from?
A mack-daddy cruise on the brand new Norweigian Epic
More of that to come in a bit…but, let’s catch up.

Well, the weather seems to be slightly changing–a little less humidity, finally.
It’s football season and this Midwestern girl always
complains that it should NOT be gross and hot when you’re at a game.

I was watching the Iowa-Penn State game this weekend and was
soooo jealous that everyone was wearing scarves and hats….
Fall is my favorite time of year—well, not Fall in Florida, real Fall.

Anyways, my Hawks won!!!  It was homecoming and
there were lots of alum that went back for the game…
Check out how cool the stadium looked!!!

Media_http2bpblogspot_twdjd

We were at this game a couple of years ago
with all of the Wilsons and Beaupres in tow (for our Iowa wedding reception).
It was in November that year and
Iowa beat out Penn State at the very last minute.
Whoop!
Let me jog your memory….

Media_http2bpblogspot_tbjxw

Yep, remember–Ellen went to Penn State…

Love CW’s overalls…

Ah, the cold weather sounds nice right now.

Soooo…we did go to a Bucs game earlier in the season
(actually, I think it was pre-season).
I even made a couple of tank tops again this year…
Here’s just an inexpensive black strapless top–the front..

The back…

And a striped tank-front…

Here are the boys before the game…

And us girls…
too bad you can’t see the bedazzled part of my shirt.

Gotta get a beer tube!

I like the cotton candy in this shot…

The pirate ship looks cool…

Maybe when the real “Fall” shows up
we’ll go to another game haha!!!!
