Love Uncommon

Hello my Friend!

Every year I show you a few of my fav things from one of my fav sites, Uncommon Goods.  They always have the greatest items and gifts.

Check out these interchangable Corkcicle wine toppers.  Choose from the red or white sets for $17.95.

I’m also amazed by the unique artwork they feature.  This “All the guitars in Tennessee” is fantastic by James G. Hancock (we love Nashville)!  Too bad I’ve already decided on what I’m getting CW, cause this would be perfect in the house.  $185 framed.

and of course the “All the mountains in Colorado” is right up our alley.

I SOOOOOO need this portable Iphone charger (the black and aqua one)–and ca-ute for $35!  You just charge it before you go somewhere and it will give you an extra 3 hours if needed.

It seems like lots of peeps have been having babies–or are about to lately.  Birth announcement pillows in 5 colors for $100.

I love these Rope Knot Doorstops for some reason.  Totally random, but would come in handy for a couple of our doors that don’t stay shut completely and 2 pups who always seem to figure out how to open…for $40.

Return and Reward

Hello my Friend!

Well, call me indecisive.  That’s not usually what I’m called, but I changed my mind on the office decor-AGAIN.  Argh.  I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the rest of the house-but this room is a challenge.

Remember a bit ago I found some framed prints from Home Goods and thought I’d go in the direction of travel?  Yeah-scratch that.  For some reason the silver frames were driving me crazy–and I couldn’t let it go….so, I returned them. Boo.

Back to square one.  Although I’m still going to do the framed road maps of places we love–but down the main stairway instead.  That was my original thought-so I’m going back to it.

The good thing that came out of making that return was that I randomly came across the perfect pieces to complete our dining room table centerpiece.  Patience is a virtue.

The big white coral-looking bowl-thingy has been just sitting empty.  It’s not exactly made for anything of real weight, but these little glossy guys were perfect.

Table

Loving the modern apples and pears.

As for the office–back to the drawing board.  Right now there’s a big piece of furniture that was previously in the master bedroom.  I know that I’m going to paint it a bright color, but need to find a direction-before I know how to tackle it.  Hmmm…that room is keeping my decorating bones a thinkin.

Today’s lesson: Follow your gut.  It may lead to a little unexpected surprise.

Oh and on another note, one of my favorite pieces that I re-painted in this whole process was the now blue trunk.  It’s the big pop of color in the great room.  Remember?

Image_15

Well, it couldn’t have worked out more perfect in that spot.  It’s the greatest place to store all of the napkins, placemats and tablecloths.

It used to sit by the front door and housed all of the pups bazillions of collars.  Now it’s graduated to being entertainment central.  Love.

Jackpot Finds

Hello my Friend!

I’m soooo dying for Fall weather.  I’ve even been wearing jeans and thin long sleeved shirts lately–just hoping this gross hot Summer in Florida will end sooner (is sooner a word?) this year.  Tough luck I know.  Since our house is pretty much done being re-decorated (boo), that means I haven’t been to HomeGoods in FOR-ever.

I stopped by today to grab a utensil (seriously, for a utensil) and lo and behold, what did I find??!! Jackpot.

Right there in the middle of a random aisle was an easel chalboard–in white.

Img_3328

I was in serious heaven and snatched it up in a quick sec.  Remember I was telling you in a previous post that I’ve been on the hunt for an old piece of art with a cool frame—that I was going to re-vamp and paint with chalkboard paint?  Well, this is a whole lot easier–and cooler…love that it’s an easel and a tad dinged up.

Img_3329

I’m envisioning using it to display menus at parties here at the house, decorating it fun for holidays, writing out cool quotes, etc.  Yippee!!!

Since it seemed to be a lucky day in good ol HomeGoods, I went to check out the framed art section (I’ve scored some great pieces in the past).  The office is still the only “work-in-progress” room in the house.  I’ve been waiting to find the perfect art to use as inspiration.  Well, today, that was accomplished.

After some major digging, I uncovered these little gems.  They spoke to me.  Travel is going to be the theme–I know, I know, not exactly shocking…pretty fitting for us.   They even go perfect with the curtains.  Hello NYC and London.

The brainstorming began in that moment.  I’d seen lots of framed maps on Pinterest, but wasn’t sure where I was going to end up putting a “map gallery”.  I was actually thinking of doing a ton of them going down the staircase, but now…they’ll be home in the office.

I have a lot of unused white and black shelves that have been lying on the floor with no place to go.  I like the idea of mixing up a wall using both the black and white, so the ideas were flowing…

Img_3335

How easy will it be to frame maps of all of the places that we’ve been to and love, like this (image from Pinterest and 33 Shades of Green)!

Ifblogproject365_167

I’ll probably end up doing something similar to this arrangement from Jedi Craft Girl, but having it all be maps…

So, yay, I have some other projects to tackle–now that there’s a TRAVEL direction for the room.

Oh—on another note Halloween is coming. HomeGoods told me so!!

Img_3319

They have the best decor.

Img_3320

Ummm….Cinnamon Applesauce?  Yum.

Img_3322

Man, I’m a sucka for decorations.  Halloween is one of our favs in this house.

Img_3323

Nice “the Witch is in” sign…that could be used inappropriately I’m sure.  I’ll pass haha.

Img_3324

I wish this countdown Crow was in silver–not gold.  Super cute idea.

In case you’re wondering..I did get that lone utensil I went in for =)

Dining is Done

Hello my Friend!  I am happy to finally say that the dining room table is DONE!  Whoa–what a whirlwind that thing turned out to be.

To rewind, we had a dining room set that was CW’s “Ma’s”.  I love, loved the style of the chairbacks, so I was intent on updating the whole thing to match the new decor.

It was a brown wood…

Image_1

I decided to spray paint the chairs because there was so much detail (smart move).

Image_6

Awesome!

Image_9

A couple weekends ago I started in on the table (and a drink).

Everyone on the blogs kept saying to do multiple thin coats, rather than just a couple thicker ones.  This was after one coat (not bad)!  Note: I used that old rug as my dropcloth…since I was throwing it out anyways.

Image_5

After about 3 coats…

Image_11

When it was dry I put a coat of polyurethane on it and have been patiently waiting for about two weeks for it to dry.  After scouring the internet and asking the Lowe’s guy, it’s safe to say that I got a bad can of poly.  Wha???!!!!  No wonder it was still sticky weeks later.  So, last night I bit the bullet and started sanding the whole thing down to get that coat off.

I did two more thin coats of paint (NO poly this time, we’re just going to wing it without and see how it holds up) and it dried bada-bing overnight.  Here’s the new black table!

That’s a wrap on the dining room.  I am happy!

A few of my favorite things….how cute is this Lowe’s (yeah, Lowe’s) pendant lamp–with seaside images inside the shade?  That inspired the coral-looking centerpiece (we are in Florida ya know).

Huge fan of the sparkly mosaic mirror from Pier 1.
