Room In Progress

Hello my Friend!

If you’ve been reading my blog, you know that I re-decorated the entire house this past summer.  LOVED it.  I’m working on a “design” section for my blog, along with “events”, “travel”, etc.  Well, the only room left to do is the “office”.  It’s not really an office, we just call it that because there’s a computer and printer in there, but it’s mostly full of random stuff.  Guess it’s more truthful to call it the mish-mosh room.  Oh, and that computer doesn’t even work haha.  Now that we both have laptops, it’s not like we’re actually going to sit in that room on our computers, like ever.

I’ve been looking at Pinterest for some inspiration with what to do with the extra space.  What a nice problem to have, right?

When my Mom was here a couple of weeks ago, we thought it would be amazing as a closet/dressing room! Omg, how major is this room from Habitually Chic?!

I’m thinking I could re-vamp a cabinet or armoire like this one on diy Design Fanatic.  It would be a great place to store all of my jewelry (yes, I have that much).

Every wall in the house is now a shade of gray.  The only decor in the “office” room right now is the curtains.  I ordered them from a shop on Etsy awhile back.  I’m still loving the whole gray/yellow color scheme, so that’s good.

I like the couch/bed thing in this room that I pinned below.  We have a long piece of furniture that’s currently sitting in the middle of the room.  My goal months ago was to paint it that same yellow color as the curtains, maybe I’ll get on that finally.

How easy to turn a bookshelf into a great shoe display.  Pinned here.

This goes back to the “dressing room” idea.  This one from A Cup of Mai doesn’t look like it would be very hard to translate into our room…a big floor mirror, vanity table  (the current desk we have is just plain white, so it could double as one), a couple of garment racks (I already own one), add a couch/bed/loungy type chair, cool rug and wa-lah–I might be able to do this without breaking the bank.

So far the dressing room idea is winning.  Any other ideas???

Upstairs Decor

Hello my Friend!

I had a fantastic trip back to Chicago with my girls.  More of that to come…but in the meantime, I keep getting requests to show you what I’ve done with the rest of the house–in the decorating department.  I snapped some quick pics of a couple of the bedrooms for ya.  They’re still a work in progress, but are mostly done.

Did I show you where I ended up putting Wrigley and Goose’s paintings?  I can’t remember.  They’re at the bottom of the stairs now.

Img_0866

Of course the pups had to get in a lot of the shots.

Img_0867

I love, love, love how the spare bedroom turned out.  It’s a bit hard to get good pics during the day with the crazy, bright Florida sun, but you get the point.

Oh–and after seeing these photos I realize that I’m DEFINITELY not a person that irons sheets….obviously!!  Life’s too short for that.

This room has mint green accents.  Target curtains, West Elm bedding, 2 tables that I had and re-painted (here and here), round mirror from Home Goods and artwork by ME =)

Img_0871

I got new platform beds for both rooms too.  It was easy once I found one I liked.  Queen in white for the spare bedroom, King in black for the master.  My goal is to eventually make some slipcovers in cool fabrics that would slide on over the tops of the headboards (hence, the reason I ordered beds with “clean” straight lines).

Img_0875

Can you tell that I am coo-coo for pillows?  I found the big satin Euro ones at BB&B and the mint green square ones all at JC Penney.

Img_0878

Remember this table that used to be silver?  It had a perfect little spot for a fan to fit in (we like fans for noise)….

Img_0887

Onto the Master Bedroom…

The very first purchase I made for this room back in the day was the rug (from Home Goods).  I had no idea what direction this room would take, but I knew it would entail these stripes and the duvet cover I grabbed at IKEA.

Img_0908

oh—and then these curtains made the cut (from Target).  Can you tell that I get a major kick out of mixing lots of patterns together?

Img_0925

I looked for artwork throughout the whole process, but nothing struck me, so I just blew up some pics from Shutterfly for this room….

A couple from the wedding…

and trips to Chicago, Turks & Caicos and NYC for the middle frame.  Eventually this whole wall will also have black frames added and some sort of artwork/decor, etc…depending on what I come across.  I hope to have it extend the entire lenght of the wall within a straight line (the height of the frames that are there now) with a few pops of color.  TBD….

Img_0914

I’d been searching for a cabinet for the TV to stick in the corner.  I saw this one and it nailed the look that I was going for (from Home Goods, but I think it was originally from Pier 1).

Img_0899

I ordered some inexpensive night stands from Target (that I put together-I rock) and replaced the knobs with cool ones from Anthropologie to spice them up a bit.

Img_0931

Since the tables were white, I added a couple of fabric placemats for great color and to protect the tops.  How easy is that to switch out colors when I want to?!

Img_0920

I stumbled across these cheap black letters ($2 each!!) and thought they would be great under the nightstands on each side.

Img_0917

I had been obsessed with mirrored furniture for awhile, but it’s expensive and I’m guessing hard to keep clean with puppy noses, so I added mirrored and clear accessories for the effect instead.

Img_0932

Not sure that it comes across, but the pop of color in this room is more of an aqua.

Img_0907

Hi Goose.  The opposite wall is blank right now–until I find the perfect pieces of furniture/wall decor for it…

Img_0901

The lettered frames that used to be downstairs went awesome up here now.

Img_0912

The spare bathroom also got a new color scheme.  Mint green like the spare bedroom.

When I found that big green candlestick, I knew that was going to be the direction I was heading for in there.  I had those little black shelves and got a wavy white frame (Home Goods) to replace the ugly “mirror sheet” that I had removed.

Img_0942

Cute little accessories…

Img_0940

More knobs from Anthropolgie.

Img_0938

I’d seen on Pinterest a few pictures of showers with 2 curtains that opened in the middle…so I did it too (I found the perfect patterned ones at Burlington Coat Factory).  It makes it so much easier getting in and out from the middle, rather than on an end–especially for such a small space.

Img_0946

Kate Spade towels and rugs from Bed Bath and Beyond and it was a wrap.

Img_0937

The office is at a stand still for now–but it’s the room that has the yellow chevron curtains…I’ve got to do some more thinking about painting a big piece of furniture (prob the same yellow) and wall decor.

Img_0798

I’m going to do a big post soon with pictures of all of the rooms in the house, but this is a start.  I just had a bunch of my girls over and everything was a huge hit…it all looks so different from the gold/tan/brown tuscany feel we’d had for years.

How times a change….gray, black and white are the rage for 2012 and I couldn’t be happier with everything.

See ya!

Dining is Done

Hello my Friend!  I am happy to finally say that the dining room table is DONE!  Whoa–what a whirlwind that thing turned out to be.

To rewind, we had a dining room set that was CW’s “Ma’s”.  I love, loved the style of the chairbacks, so I was intent on updating the whole thing to match the new decor.

It was a brown wood…

Image_1

I decided to spray paint the chairs because there was so much detail (smart move).

Image_6

Awesome!

Image_9

A couple weekends ago I started in on the table (and a drink).

Image

Everyone on the blogs kept saying to do multiple thin coats, rather than just a couple thicker ones.  This was after one coat (not bad)!  Note: I used that old rug as my dropcloth…since I was throwing it out anyways.

Image_5

After about 3 coats…

Image_11

When it was dry I put a coat of polyurethane on it and have been patiently waiting for about two weeks for it to dry.  After scouring the internet and asking the Lowe’s guy, it’s safe to say that I got a bad can of poly.  Wha???!!!!  No wonder it was still sticky weeks later.  So, last night I bit the bullet and started sanding the whole thing down to get that coat off.

I did two more thin coats of paint (NO poly this time, we’re just going to wing it without and see how it holds up) and it dried bada-bing overnight.  Here’s the new black table!

Img_0781
That’s a wrap on the dining room.  I am happy!
Dining
A few of my favorite things….how cute is this Lowe’s (yeah, Lowe’s) pendant lamp–with seaside images inside the shade?  That inspired the coral-looking centerpiece (we are in Florida ya know).

Huge fan of the sparkly mosaic mirror from Pier 1.

Blue and white patterned rug from Home Goods.

CW just walked in from work and said it looks like a totally different house.  Woo-hoo, I’ll take that as a compliment!

Nifty Nails

Hello my Friend!

The projects around here are coming to an end and I’m trying my best to leave some walls open and empty on purpose (it’s really hard).  We have a couple great trips coming up (one is kinda hush-hush, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we can pull it off-yay)!  I’m hoping that we stumble upon some cool things while traveling and we’ll have space to put them in the house (without over-cluttering).

So, I found the nailhead strips I’ve been thinking about.  I knew they existed!

Image

How funny, they come in a long 5 yard strip-with little holes every few spots that you nail in an actual nailhead…no need to hot glue.  Nice.

Image_6

I grabbed a good ol Target table (think it was about $10) that needed a little love + this new shiny hardware = a fab new piece of furniture!!

Image_5

It was really easy to break the strips apart in sections.  Boom, boom, boom with a hammer every so often and it was starting to take on a new life.

Image_4

See that little hole on the left in the strip?  You just hammer in a nail.  I didn’t even nail in every open spot…just enough to keep them in place.

Image_3

TA-DAH!!!!!

Image_1

I’m definitely going back to get another nailhead package and do it to the same table that we have in white.

Image_2

That’s a pretty easy transformation, right?  I know it looks like a different color in these pics, but it’s the same table (just different lighting in parts of the house)...finally, something I didn’t have to paint =)

Tablemake

I’ve never upholstered furnture, but this has given me some newfound confidence…well, not that I have furniture that needs upholstering, but good to know!!

Please lord, don’t let me get carried away and start nailheading (is that a word?) every piece of furniture in this house.  Thank you.
